DETROIT, Mich – SPORTS – It was a tough start for the RBC Dominion Securities Bantam AA Queens at the Bauer World Hockey Invite in Detroit, Mich., as the club dropped their opening two games Friday.

Thunder Bay opened up with a 7-2 loss at the hands of the Chicago Young Americans and then dropped a 2-0 decision to the Etobicoke Dolphins of Toronto in their second contest of the day.

Against Chicago the Queens fell behind 3-1 after one period of play with Brenna Bohonos supplying the lone marker for her side. Vanessa Nicholl picked up an assist on the play.

The Young Americans tacked on three more tallies in the second to take control while Karadyn Kiviaho added one for Thunder Bay. Setting up the goal was Allyson Lesperence.

In the match-up vs. Etobicoke Tristan Usher’s power play effort early in the first period proved to be the game-winner as the Queens fell to 0-2 after Day 1 action.

Usher then fed Hunter Nugent for an insurance marker midway through the third to round out the scoring.

Round robin play for the Queens concludes Saturday at noon as they take on the Milwaukee Jr. Admirals.
