THUNDER BAY – SPORTS – The Lakehead University Thunderwolves men’s basketball team is off to a 2-0 start, after beating the York Lions 72-60 on Saturday evening.
Lakehead got off to another rocky start offensively, scoring only 13 points through 10 minutes, but were defensively sound, holding York to 6 points in the frame.
Both teams loosened up in the 2nd quarter, Lakehead holding a 30-20 lead into halftime.
The Lions would go on a run in the 3rd quarter, putting up 27 points and taking a 47-43 lead.
The fourth quarter belonged to the ‘Wolves, though, as they went on a 29-13 run to end the game, their highest offensive output for a quarter thus far in regular season play.
Four Thunderwolves scored in double digits, led by Anthony McIntosh with 14 points, 7 rebounds, with Dwayne Harvey and Alex Robichaud putting up 13 points each, while Bacarius Dinkins scored 11 points with 12 rebounds.
For the Lions, Richard Iheadindu scored 19 while his 5th year post, Nick Tufegdzich, scored 18 points with 12 rebounds.
The Thunderwolves will continue regular season play next week, as they head to Hamilton to take on the McMaster Marauders (CIS #4) in an OUA Central division double-header ‘rivalry’ weekend.
