THUNDER BAY – The snow and wintery conditions that are impacting the western part of Northwestern Ontario.

Special weather statement in effect for:

  • City of Thunder Bay
  • Marathon – Schreiber
  • Nipigon – Rossport
  • Armstrong – Auden – Wabakimi Park
  • Beardmore – Jellicoe – Macdiarmid
  • Gull Bay – Black Sturgeon Lake

Significant snow followed by a sharp cold front.

A sharp cold front is expected to sweep through Northwestern Ontario this evening and tonight moving from west to east. Temperatures will drop quickly to several degrees below freezing after the cold frontal passage. Hazardous conditions could result as standing water or wet snow freezes on untreated surfaces. Depending on how much water or slush remains on untreated surfaces and how quickly the temperatures fall, a flash freeze warning may be issued.

Gusty winds to 50 or 60 kilometres per hour may give periods of reduced visibility in blowing snow during or following the passage of the cold front. A blowing snow advisory may be issued for some of the regions.
