SAULT STE MARIE – SPORTS – The women’s basketball team earned a 47-28 win over the Algoma Thunderbirds on Thursday.
“Driving 8 hours, getting off a bus and playing is never easy,” said coach Jon Kreiner “…But I really liked some of the adjustments we’ve made defensively the last two weeks.”
With 2 more games to play this weekend, the ‘Wolves kept the pace light on offense, focussing on their defense in Thursday’s contest, easing out to a 23-11 halftime lead.
Jylisa Williams led the ‘Wolves with 14 points, 7 rebounds and 5 steals in 16 minutes of court time.
Essa Jacobsen, Mozanga Ekwalanga and August Ricketts had 6 points each. Corina Bruni made 6 assists, with 6 rebounds and 5 steals while Jerika Baldin had 5 steals.
Coach Kreiner continues, “Today allowed for us to work on our defensive rotations in a game situation and although we are still struggling to move on offence and knock down shots we are really improving our defence and getting great opportunities to score out of it.”
The women’s basketball team play Wilfrid Laurier tomorrow in Sudbury at 6:00 pm.
