MONTREAL – SPORTS – The Lakehead University women’s basketball team were defeated, 82-64 by the Regina Cougars on Sunday morning in action in Montreal.
Lakehead was able to keep pace with the Canada West powerhouse for the first half, matching them in the first quarter (21-21) and trailing by 3 at the half, 35-32.
The third quarter was dominated by the Cougars, who outscored Lakehead 23-11 to expand their lead to 15 points.
Both defenses loosened up in the final frame, Regina putting up 24 points to LU’s 21.
Player of the game for Lakehead was Corina Bruni with 9 points, 6 assists and 5 rebounds. Top scorer Lakehead was Jylisa Williams with 21 points, while Katie Ulakovic went 3-of-8 from beyond the arc for 9 points.
Regina’s Caitlyn Zacharias scored 20 points with 6 assists and 5 rebounds.
