Paul Sloan Offers Platform for Thunder Bay
THUNDER BAY – CIVIC POLITICS – Paul Sloan is running in the Red River ward for a seat on Thunder Bay City Council. Sloan offers an in-depth platform that covers a wide-sweeping range of topics.
Paul Sloan:
I was born and raised in Thunder Bay and, except for a year in Windsor and my travels throughout Canada and the USA, lived here all my life. Most of my living in Thunder Bay has been in the Red River Ward; I have also lived in Northwood, Current River, downtown FW (McKellar) and downtown PA.
I am a supporter of the combined ward and at-large system in Thunder Bay after researching the options. There are issues in the ward that would be unknown to one not living there and unresolved without a ward councillor. This doesn’t mean a ward councillor is relegated to ward issues. The ward councillor is the ward citizens’ representative to make the city and region as good as possible so that positive benefits are shared by all the wards. I will make sure Red River Ward gets its rightful share of political and financial attention, and there is not extra attention for any ward, excluding major municipal and regional projects, at the expense of the other wards. The wards of Thunder Bay are cooperative neighbours in making Thunder Bay great. Four wards directly border Red River Ward, including some of the areas perceived by citizens as being most dangerous in the city. Our ward will be negatively impacted by another lagging ward and you will notice the difference when you leave your neighbourhood.
If you are looking for a glad-handing, entertaining public figure with eloquent speeches, gets into pictures with all sorts of strangers, and insincerely shows up to public events, I am not your man. I will be busy working hard to make the ward, city and region better for you. I am not part of any “old boys club” and my ideas and speeches are my own. Your municipal issues deserve to be taken seriously, however small they might be considered at the time, and dealt with sooner, rather than later, before they get out of hand. I know first hand of professional discourtesy, misconduct, negligence and incompetence. I respect the value of a dollar; many weeks I have lived on less. I will work hard to protect the city’s money and ensure you get fair service for your issues in this city.
