THUNDER BAY – CIVIC POLITICS – Acceptance and a deep understanding of our diversity is the key to a stronger community. Inclusion of all who live, work and play is one of our most important opportunities for Thunder Bay.
Hope for our future stems from the fact that we can readily and unconditionally embrace our differences. Our City needs to continue to reach out, engage and involve our many diverse cultural friends to ensure all perspectives are at the table for the important discussions and decisions that need to take place to move our community forward. We are stronger together.
Trust must be earned and it needs to be the City’s mandate to ensure we build that trust so we can develop new opportunities economically, socially and in partnerships where ALL benefit. Trust can only be attained through a willingness to learn and by developing a clear understanding of the values that are rooted within each culture and tradition. A building of trust does not follow a schedule. It cannot be rushed along but must be nurtured by taking the time to listen and observe so that we can clearly comprehend and accept each other as equals.
Building a community is hard work, but we must dedicate our time and efforts to this end, so we can prosper, create jobs, enhance our tax base, attract new investments and build on the successes we have enjoyed to date.
When we have an economy that is continuously progressing we can create an environment whereby we can support and assist those in need in our community.
Our diversity is a very important part of our community-building process. We each can play an important role to ensure Thunder Bay is a welcoming community for everyone and we will be stronger for it.
