Northwestern Ontario Leaders Plan the Future

THUNDER BAY – The theme of the Northwestern Ontario Regional Conference is working together. The regional leaders, Provincial Ministers, Mayors, Reeves, Councillors, and partners are at the Valhalla Inn in Thunder Bay to meet and put planning issues together for the coming years.

The issues of economic development, mining, including the Ring of Fire, and working together as relationship building is on the agenda.

The Metis Nation of Ontario and the Municipality of Greenstone will be signing an agreement this morning of co-operation between the communities.

Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association (NOMA)

The keynote speaker on Thursday is Bruce  M Firestone.

Firestone is best known as an entrepreneur and founder of NHL hockey team, the Ottawa Senators, their home arena, Canadian Tire Centre, and the Ottawa Senators Foundation, a children’s charity, as well as author, professor, coach, consultant, real estate broker and urban guru.

Prof Bruce is an effective keynote speaker for organizations with a positive focus on creating opportunity for their stakeholder group. Firestone advises counties, towns and cities as well as economic development agencies on how to develop live-work-play communities based on the principal that is nothing is sustainable unless it is also economically sustainable too.

The conference continues until Friday, and will host a session with Ontario Government Ministers Gravelle, Mauro, Zimmer and McMeekin.
