Shuniah Forest Products Recognized for Workplace Safety

NORTH BAY – BUSINESS — As Ontario’s occupational health and safety expert for forestry, mining, and paper, printing, and converting sectors, each year Workplace Safety North (WSN) recognizes strong workplace safety cultures in the province. The Workplace Excellence Awards are given annually to companies that demonstrate a commitment to the prevention of illness and injury.

Shuniah Forest Products of Thunder Bay was recognized for both Workplace Excellence and also received the President’s Award as well as small company recognition as well.

Within this group of winners, top performers are selected from each sector to receive the President’s Award. During the annual general meeting and awards dinner held in North Bay today, Candys Ballanger-Michaud, WSN President, presents four awards, honouring recipients for their contribution to building safe and healthy workplaces in Ontario.

“It’s important to recognize the efforts of workplaces that make health and safety a priority,” stated Ballanger-Michaud. “They lead the way and set the tone for their sectors. That’s why these businesses deserve special recognition, for demonstrating their strong commitment to ensuring that every worker goes home safe and healthy each day.

“These award winners are positive role models for Ontario businesses to make workplace health and safety an integral part of every job and every work day,” she notes. Earlier this year, twenty-three companies received a Workplace Excellence Award from WSN, recognizing workplace excellence in health and safety.
