THUNDER BAYRoad construction is continuing in Thunder Bay. Today, access to downtown Fort William is a little harder than usual as road crews are replacing damaged sections of road on Victoria Avenue and Brodie Street.

Across the downtown Fort William, crews are repairing damage to the roads and sidewalks.

Earlier this spring, a number of streetlights were removed as the bases were rusting out. One streetlight fell over at the corner of Brodie Street and Victoria Avenue East. After that, crews removed a number of other light posts which were checked and seen to be in similar condition.

Earlier this summer, crews took out some of the dead trees which were lining downtown Fort William streets.

A busy construction season continues in Thunder Bay. Current projects include road and sidewalk rehabilitation, residential paving, sewer and watermain repair/replacement, bridge work and streetlight renewal.

These projects are funded by the City’s Capital Budget including $8.25 million in the Enhanced Infrastructure Renewal Program, and some receive additional funding through the Federal Gas Tax Program.

Road work can result in road closures, detours and delays for drivers. Drivers should reduce their speed, be alert, watch for workers and drive with extra care in construction zones.

Temporary street closures for events will be in effect:

· Sunday, Sept. 14, from 10 am – 3 pm, Algoma Street from John Street to Gibson Street, for Open Streets Thunder Bay
