Natural Resources Minister Rickford Announcement in Thunder Bay
THUNDER BAY = Minister of Natural Resources, Greg Rickford announced funding of $1,273,000 in Thunder Bay today. The investment will support innovation, community economic development, and small business initiatives. “Our government is proud to help Aboriginal communities create a sustainable economic future through strategic investments that encourage entrepreneurship,” stated Minister Rickford.

There is funding of $960,000 for Nishnawbe Aski Development Bank, $100,000 for Thunder Bay Ventures, and Matawa First Nations Management. As well, Lakehead University will receive funding of $50,000, and Muskrat Dam First Nation will receive $63,000 in funding from Fednor.
The NADF funding will support small to medium sized businesses with access to funding and business counseling.The funding announcements, add to the $380 million in FedNor announcements made in the region over the past several years.

• The funding announced today is provided through FedNor’s Northern Ontario Development and Community Futures Programs, which support projects that promote sustainable community economic development, enhance business development and growth, and facilitate innovation throughout the region.
• Since 2006, through FedNor’s Northern Ontario Development Program, the Harper Government has invested more than $308 million in support of 1,500 projects. These investments have supported more than 15,000 jobs throughout Northern Ontario.
