BAGHDAD – A mass grave discovered in a town north of Baghdad in Iraq contains at least 15 bodies. The shallow grave found in Sulaiman Bek is believed to contain the remains of a group of Shi’ite men who were truck drivers.
They were kidnapped three months ago by members of the Islamic State.
Each of the men had been shot in the head. Volunteers who have been working with the victims’ families and local police are excavating the remains.
IS fighters launched a major offensive in June, overrunning swathes of Iraq and Syria and leaving a path of bloodshed in its wake.
