THUNDER BAY – The drive home on Thursday along the Thunder Bay Expressway was backed up as an accident resulted in traffic delays. The OPP report “At approximately 4:25PM EDT, Officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a five vehicle collision on Highway 11/17 at the Oliver Road intersection”.

Southbound traffic was stopped at the posted traffic light at the intersection of Highway 11/17 and Oliver Road, with four vehicles stopped at the intersection.

The driver of a 2006 Honda was south bound on Highway 11/17 when the driver approached the intersection and failed to slow down. The driver of the Honda then struck the stopped vehicle in front of her causing a chain reaction with the other vehicles colliding with the one in front of each other.

The driver of the Honda was transported to hospital by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries. The four drivers and occupants of the involved vehicles were not injured.

The Honda sustained moderate damage while the other four vehicles sustained minor damage.The driver of the Honda was charged with Following Too Close contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
