Thunder Bay in a ‘State of Crisis’

THUNDER BAY – Mayor Hobbs, Councillors Joe Virdiramo and Brian McKinnnon report on their trip to the AMO Meetings in London Ontario. The City in meetings with Ontario Ministers reported that Thunder Bay is in a “Crisis Situation” and needs immediate help to deal with several of the social issues facing both the region and the City of Thunder Bay.

The delegation from the City of Thunder Bay also included Ken Boshcoff and City Manager Tim Commisso.

Issues raised included the Thunder Bay Event and Convention Centre, strategic infrastructure renewal, resource sector growth, Healthcare needs, homelessness, and improved funding for social programs including Shelter House.

“Thunder Bay went to bat for our community’s priorities and we were definitely hear,” commented the Mayor. Councillor Virdiramo stated that both Thunder Bay Minister have been like “Pitbulls, raising issues here in the north”.
