Quick Instinctive Actions Prevented More Damage

THUNDER BAY – The horrors of Thunder Bay’s sixth homicide are hitting hard on many people across the city. Kim and Barb, two others living in the building are going through an especially difficult time. They were the two who discovered the eight-year old girl on the floor.

Kim, a  single mother who was put in the position of protecting her children from the attacker who is accused of murdering an eight year old Thunder Bay girl. It was likely instinctive effort to protect her children that prevented further tragedy. The murderer had already attacked the mother and the eight-year old girl, fatally injuring the child.

The attacker was then on a rampage looking for his former girlfriend, however she had fled the apartment and gone across the street, she was seeking help. Kim was able to defend herself by pushing the attacker out of her home and into the backyard.

At ten to three in the morning, Kim was woken up by the assailant standing in her kitchen and yelling at her.

Kim was able to not only protect her children, but by forced the very distraught and angry attacker out of the house, she is credited with saving the live of the young brother to the slain sister. “Police told me that my actions likely ‘prevented further damage’ and ‘it could have been a lot worse’ “.

It was at that time she saw the eight-year old girl.

Barb contacted 911 at 2:54AM. The door had already been broken open.

Barb and Kim had no idea where the attacker was. They were on the telephone with the 911 dispatcher.

Both women were terrified, they had no idea if the attacker was still in the home.

Police arrived quickly, said Kim.

In an interview with NetNewsLedger, the very shaken young mother was still very emotional. She states that the scenes she saw on Monday are likely to stay with her forever. All of the other women who were in the house say that they have seen things that they wish they had never seen.

Kim and Barb, who were in the house, had no idea where the mother was, who they later found out had left the scene

The attacker, who isn’t from Thunder Bay, was angry because his girlfriend had broken up with him and kicked him out of the apartment. The relationship had been difficult, and police had been called to her apartment before according to Kim.

That of course would not have mattered, the attacker had smashed through three doors to make his way into the apartment.

He had a look in his eyes, of pure anger said both women.

In terms of people bashing Thunder Bay over this incident, ss said, “This was a domestic dispute, and it would have happened anywhere”.

“It could have been a lot worse”, said Kim.

Thunder Bay Victim’s service have put her and a friend up in a local hotel, and are covering the costs.
