Thunder Bay Fire RescueTHUNDER BAY – UPDATED – Reports are coming in of an ‘Explosion’ near the Thunder Bay Expressway and Balsam Street… Thunder Bay Fire Rescue is on the way…. breaking… Power is out in the area… There is a massive power outage reported on the North Side of Thunder Bay….

Thunder Bay Hydro has been dispatched.

Witnesses at the scene report seeing a large flash, like a magnesium explosion.

10:10AM EDT – Thunder Bay Fire Rescue is on the scene…

10:18AM EDT – Reports are power is out in the Bay and Algoma area, Shuniah, Current River, and other areas of the north side of the city.

10:21AM EDT – Power is coming on in the Bay and Algoma area… Festa Italiana on schedule today…

10:27AM EDT – Power is being restored to many areas…

10:31AM EDT – Thunder Bay Hydro has taken command of the scene – Units of Thunder Bay Fire Rescue are returning to stations.

Power is in process of being restored.

10:47AM EDT – Power has been coming on in parts of the northward… Castlegreen is up, County Park is still down. Parts of the Bay and Algoma district are up. Bruce from Bay Meats had to feel his way up from the basement as he was in the shop when the power went out. Appears to be on and off across the North side of Thunder Bay.

10:58AM EDT – 3,555 customers in the area covered by Ontario Hydro have lost power, area is east of Thunder Bay… out to Pass Lake. Power is estimated to be back on by 2:35PM

14:30PM EDT – There are 1401 Hydro One Customers east of Thunder Bay who still need their power restored. Hydro One is aiming to have power restored by 6PM EDT.
