EMO – MOTOR SPORTS – It was another Saturday night of iffy weather at the Emo Speedway, but luckily only a small shower around 5pm hit the track with the majority of it happening further east towards Fort Frances. Another amazing crowd attended with two heats in the WISSOTA classes and nine cars in the Emo Street Stocks for AMSOIL Dirt Track Racing Series action.

The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds heat one was on the track first for the night. Chuck Lambert started on the pole with Don Scholler on the outside. Scholler pulled out front early and did not look back as Lambert was unable to mount a challenge. John Hettinga finished third. In the second heat, Brady Caul started third and claimed the win, while Cody Ossachuk and Christopher Leek rounded out the top three.

The Emo Street Stocks had an exciting heat race as Tylar Wilson, Kendal Gamsby, and Jeff Wickstrom made their way through the field to the top three spots. However, it was Wilson that would take the win from the sixth position. Gamsby went from seventh to second, while Wickstrom raced his way from ninth to third.

The WISSOTA Modifieds split into two heats with Gavin Paull claiming the win, Jamie Davis finishing third, and Steve Nordin finishing fourth. In the second heat, Gary Wilson took the early lead, but contact with Phil Gavel led to Wilson going sideways on the backstretch. Ron Korpi was able to avoid it and Lindsay Bourre slid sideways while trying to avoid the car but ended up impacting the car. On the restart, Jeff Davis pulled away from Korpi for the win.

The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds feature had Scholler and Hettinga on the front row. Scholler moved out in front but this time he was not going to be alone. Brady Caul was moving quickly from the sixth position. Passing Ossachuk, then Kenny Perry, Caul was in third as the caution came out for Brody Strachan spinning in turn four. On the ensuing restart, Caul made the pass for second. His eyes were then set on Scholler.

The rest of the field were battling for third spot, but Hettinga went too high and fell off the track bringing out the caution. On the next restart, Caul went to the inside on Scholler making the race a side by side affair for several laps. Caul had the lead by just a bit for next few laps, but Scholler was able to regain as they swapped lanes.

The battled continued beside one another with Scholler still on the inside. Caul took the lead on the outside as they went halfway through the race. They jostled some more until one more caution as Terry Martin ended up over the embankment.

With just five laps to go, Scholler was able to keep Caul at bay to take the clean sweep of the night and his second win in a row after winning at Hibbing Speedway last weekend. Lambert finished third, while Christopher Leek finished fourth and Hettinga fifth.

The Emo Street Stocks were up next. Devin Brown and Wickstrom were on the front row. As the green flag waved, Wickstrom took the lead. Wilson moved into second place while Gamsby passed for third. Wilson, Wickstrom and Gamsby made it almost three wide in the early going, but the caution came out having to restack the field. Wilson led them to the green.

Gamsby moved into second on the outside and passed the leader for the top spot. Wilson was not willing to give up as he held steadfast on the middle of the track starting to reel in Gamsby just like he did last week. Wilson pulled up beside Gamsby on the inside making it another side by side race for several laps. Back and forth the two were inseparable. Eventually, Wilson was able to make the pass and moved up a lane to start to pull away from Gamsby.

Another caution came out to reset the field, but Wilson was able to take the win in the end as Gamsby finished second, with Brown, Shine, and Godin finishing out the top five.

In the WISSOTA Modifieds, Nordin led at the start, but Jamie Davis was hot on his tail. Nordin ran the outside as Davis ducked to the inside. After several laps of side by side action, Davis was able to find the line to pull ahead. Meanwhile, Paull was moving his way passed Jeff Davis for third spot. The two battled for a bit, with the two of them switching lanes a few times.

Paull was then able to get the better of him and moved into third. He then moved right behind Nordin but ran out of laps, finishing third. Davis took his third win at Emo Speedway in 2014 with Nordin second. Jeff Davis and Tyler Brown finished up the top five.

Racing resumes this Saturday Night August 2, with hot laps at 7pm and Racing at 7:30pm. Check out www.borderlandracing.com for more information. Follow us on twitter @EmoSpeedway or like us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/EmoSpeedway.
