It is easy to paint a wind farm as green, but how green is it to destroy a mountain range and watershed?

THUNDER BAY – UPDATED – The Ontario Power Authority has terminated a FIT contract for the Big Thunder Wind Farm according to a document released by agency.

Contract # F-000519-WIN-130-601 for the Big Thunder Beta Windpark; Which is part of the Big Thunder WindPark LP in the Municipality of Neebing for Wind (On-Shore) has been termininated 2014-Q3.

At times, the OPA will terminate a contract if certain contract conditions have not been met or the project has experienced significant delays due to force majeure events.

“Now, they would have to reapply under the new procurement process; given the community opposition, and the legal action launched by Fort William First Nation, they have obstacles in terms of the new requirements for community acceptance,” states Jane Wilson, the President of Wind Concerns Ontario.

The windfarm which as generated controversy in Thunder Bay as Fort William First Nation and residents of Neebing have fought the wind farm.
