THUNDER BAY – Living – At Camp Quality Northwestern Ontario, we like nothing better than a beautiful, sunny day spent outdoors; that’s exactly what we did today! The sun was shining and in the words of one of our campers, Noah, it was gorgeous!
We started the day being spoiled by our amazing kitchen staff with the breakfast of champions- pancakes, bacon, sausage and eggs! After breakfast, our brave kitchen volunteers opened their oven doors to allow our campers to test their skills in the CQ Kitchen Whiz Competition. Our campers followed a recipe (or invented their own recipe) for chocolate cookies while our companions worked on their camper awards. There was such a variety of cookies! We even ate a purple Cookie Monster! Director, Ashleigh and nurses, Colleen and Margie did a blind taste test to determine the best cookie. The winning cookie was: The Triple Threat!
Our programming team organized a highly competitive Scavenger Hunt for our campers and their companions. Included on the list of items to find were: ladybugs, frogs and an acorn as big as your hand. Those lucky enough to find a golden ticket received extra points. The most valuable golden ticket, worth 50 points, was taped on the inside of a garbage bin!
Next, we had an awesome visit from two friends from Home Depot. The campers had a great time building their own board games and airplanes while wearing their own Home Depot aprons!
To cool off from all their hard work, the campers had the pleasure of going fishing with the Thunder Bay Police! One camper caught her very first fish while one of our nurses caught a pair of men’s boxers!
A large group from True Grit Consulting was kind enough to spend the day out at camp with us playing games at the beach! After hours of fun, they also treated our Camp Quality family to a delicious meal made and served by Cindy LooHoo’s food truck! YUM! They even brought out a cotton candy machine and made cotton candy for all to enjoy!
We spent the evening at the park in a heated soccer match against members of the Thunder Bay Police Department. Despite the best efforts of our local police, the Camp Quality team came out on top!! We won’t tell you the final score, but can say that we have some pretty incredible soccer players on our team and Lyndon, our goalie, was flawless!
As the sun faded away, we spent the night enjoying each other’s company by the fire munching on fire-baked potatoes and eating the cookies from the competition. What an amazingly stunning day at East Loon Lake! We could not have asked for better weather or company!
