Staal Foundation Open – Eric Staal
THUNDER BAY – The Staal Foundation Open, presented by Tbaytel is officially open. Staal Foundation spokesperson Eric Staal is enthused over the opportunities that the PGA TOUR Canada event holds for Thunder Bay and the Staal Foundation and the fight for cancer in our city. The Staal brothers and their families wanted to do things right, and they believe that partnering with the PGA TOUR Canada and Whitewater Golf Club is the perfect partnership to help.
Whitewater Golf Club was the site of Fort William Historical Park Pageantry this morning at the grand opening of the Staal Foundation Open, presented by Tbaytel. Singers, drummers and historical interpreters were on hand to give a historical perspective and presentation to the week-long golf event. The ceremony continued with speeches by local dignitaries, including members of the Staal family, and culminated with a ceremonial first drive.
The opening marks the official start of the Staal Foundation Open, presented by Tbaytel continuing today with the Porter Airlines Celebrity Pro-am at Whitewater and the PGA TOUR Canada Qualifier at Fort William Country Club. Tomorrow will see the Can-Op Pro-am with the first day of official competition beginning on Thursday at 7 a.m.
“We are ready,” said Scott Smith, Executive Director and lead organizer. “The course is in great shape, volunteers are ready to go, parking arrangements are all up and running and the competition is ready to begin.”
“We’re thrilled to be here in Thunder Bay for the inaugural Staal Foundation Open presented by Tbaytel,” said PGA TOUR Canada President Jeff Monday. “Right from the announcement in September, the community support for this event has been outstanding and we can’t wait to get underway this week.”
