Forest Fire Hazard Low to Moderate

THUNDER BAY – There were no new fires in the Northwest region July 10. As of the afternoon of July 11, there are currently five active fires in the Northwest Region, all of which are being observed.

The fire hazard is low to moderate for the majority of the region, except for north of Geraldton, which maintains a higher hazard.

The weather forecast for today is cloudy conditions with the risk of showers and thunderstorms.

Rain amounts will be about 10-15mm with isolated thunderstorms dropping a possible 10-15mm on top of that.  Saturday will see clearing clouds and light winds throughout the region leading to drier
conditions.

A request for an Incident Management Team for the Northwest Territories has been coordinated through the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre in Winnipeg. Ontario is scheduled to send the eight person Incident Management Team to Hay River yesterday.

There are already two fire behaviour specialists from Ontario in Yellowknife, and one Air Attack Officer is returning to Ontario after completing an assignment in there. Out of province dispatches are two weeks on duty.
