Team Canada Focused on Volleyball Wins
THUNDER BAY – SPORTS – Canada’s men’s and women’s national volleyball teams remain undefeated as they head into the final day of round-robin play on Sunday at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga, Ont. The winners of this tournament are booked a ticket to the FIVB World Championships early this fall – in Poland for the men; and Italy for the women.
Yesterday, the men took care of Trinidad and Tobago in three sets (25-13, 25-11, 25-21), and beat Panama on Friday, also in three sets 25-17, 25-12, 25-18.
The Canadian women had a tougher opponent in Mexico, but Canada still managed to take care of business, winning in four sets 16-25, 20-25, 25-20, 16-25. And on Friday Canada had no problem beating Jamaica in three sets 25-09, 25-10, 25-9.
The finals take place on Monday, with the gold-medal match for men at 6 pm and for women at 8pm.
The Honourable Bal Gosal, Minister of State (Sport) will on hand on Monday for the men’s gold-medal game coin toss. This tournament also serves as a Pan Am 2015 test event for indoor volleyball.
