Fort Frances Laker Player on to Chicago
FORT FRANCES – SIJHL HOCKEY – The Fort Frances Lakers announced today that forward Patrick Sofer has committed to attend Aurora University (NCHA) and play for the Spartans hockey team in time for the start of the 2014-15 season.
The 20-year-old forward, who hails from Chicago, Ill., set new personal single season highs in assists and points with 21 and 34 respectively while matching a career-best goal total with 13 this past season.
In two years with the club Sofer amassed 26 tallies and 38 helpers.
In 25 postseason contests with Fort Frances Sofer scored once and doled out eight assists, including helping the Lakers win their first-ever Bill Salonen Cup SIJHL championship in 2013-14.
“Patrick has skated as a Laker for the past two seasons and will be a big hole for us to fill in our roster come next season,” stated Fort Frances head coach and general manager Wayne Strachan.
“We wish Patrick the best of luck in school and hockey and all his future endeavours,” added Strachan.
He will be joining a Spartans squad that will be making their debut in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association.Aurora is based in a community of the same name, which is 40 miles west of Chicago.
