Heavy Wet Snow Hitting Powerlines

THUNDER BAY – Breaking – Thunder Bay Hydro reports that heavy wet snow has caused multiple power outages in mainly rural areas of the city. About 2500 customers are without power. Power lines are down in multiple locations. There are also many smaller no power calls coming in as the day progresses.

The snow load in rural areas is considerably heavier than in the city. Trees are laying on lines and creating stress on hydro poles. It is expected that the number of trouble areas will increase throughout the day.

All available crews are working to restore power with priority going to safety issues first.

If customers see a downed power line, this is an emergency and they should call 911 first. Thunder Bay Hydro appreciates any calls that identify a cause of power outages
such as trees on lines or broken poles.
