THUNDER BAY – Thunder Bay Police uniform patrol officers observed a male near the corner of Franklin Street and East Arthur Street on April 9th, 2014 at approximately 8:30PM. This individual was known to the officers to have a court imposed curfew and outstanding warrants.
The individual, Blake Nicholas Kowalchuk of Thunder Bay was placed under arrest without incident for breaching his curfew release condition. Kowalchuk was escorted to the Balmoral Police Station to have the warrants executed.
While in custody, Kowalchuk was also charged in conjunction with the two robberies, where a syringe was used, that occurred last week at two local business locations on April 3, 2014.
Twenty-nine year old Blake Nicholas Kowalchuk of Thunder Bay has been charged with:
– Robbery x 2
– Utter Threats X2
– Breach of Probation x3
– Breach of Recognizance x2
Kowalchuk made an initial court appearance yesterday and has been remanded to the district jail.
Thunder Bay Crime Report
Thunder Bay Police had a busy twenty-four hours. There were 42 Quality of Life calls, including 13 disorder calls. The vast majority of those calls were alcohol related.
Police were called out to nine incidents of assault.
Motor Vehicle Collision Involving Police Cruiser
Thunder Bay Police are providing an update on a motor vehicle accident that happened on Thursday night.
Traffic officers are continuing to investigate this matter, and it is anticipated that a charge is pending. We can confirm that two female drivers and two female children passengers were taken to hospital with minor injuries and released shortly afterward.
