Environment Canada Calls for Snow!
THUNDER BAY – Not again! That loud scream you heard was thousands of people complaining about the forecast.
A significant early spring storm in the forecast for Monday and Tuesday.
A developing weather system out of the U.S. southern midwest is expected to intensify and track northeastward toward Lake Superior on Monday then into Northeastern Ontario on Tuesday.
A prolonged period of snowfall is likely for much of Northwestern Ontario and the regions north of Lake Superior, beginning Monday morning and continuing through Tuesday. Total snowfall amounts in these areas could be in the 15 to 25 cm range, and may even exceed 30 cm in some locales.
There is also a risk of the snow changing to freezing rain or ice pellets, most likely in regions near to Lake Superior.
Strong northeasterly winds are also expected to develop on Monday, and thus blowing snow may also be a concern.
There is still some uncertainty regarding the precise evolution of this weather system. Weather watches and warnings are likely to be issued as the event draws nearer.
