THUNDER BAY – The Northern Dog Feeding Program helps unwanted and starving stray dogs in Northern communities. “These dogs have no one and depend on the goodness of community members for hand outs of food,” states Daniela Heerema, from the Northern Dog Feeding Program.
The two-year old program brings food to northern communities, with the basic idea that a dog that is fed, is less aggressive and more will be more sociable too.
The program is assisted by Gardewine North, who take the boxes of dog food, along with treats and other donations to Pickle Lake, where North Star Air and Cargo North then fly the food to northern communities.
In the communities, local volunteers, teachers, nurses and community members and police officers feed the local dogs.
Daniela Heerema and Leigh Neilson stopped by the NetNewsLedger newsroom to share what the program is all about.
