Thunder Bay North Star Player Recognized
THUNDER BAY – Sports – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced Monday that Thunder Bay North Stars rookie forward Zach Grzelewski has been named Pizza Hut player of the week for the period concluding Feb. 23.
In three outings last week the youngest player in the SIJHL scored eight times and doled out three assists helping Thunder Bay pick up four points and move ever closer to securing the No. 2 seed in the upcoming SIJHL playoffs.
Grzelewski, 16, began by scoring the game-winner and adding a pair of assists in a 5-2 home triumph over Wisconsin this past Tuesday.
Friday night he scored both of the North Stars goals in a 4-2 road setback at Minnesota before notching a season-high five tallies and setting up another, as he figured in all six markers, in Thunder Bay’s 6-3 victory in Wisconsin.
Overall Grzelewski has points in 20 of his past 22 games played and now sits second overall in the SIJHL in goals scored with 41 and fifth in total points with 74.
Also earning consideration for Pizza Hut player of the week was Cody Wickstrom, (D) Fort Frances Lakers; Matt O’Dea, (F) Minnesota Iron Rangers; Dane Feeney, (F) Dryden Ice Dogs; Paul Lamoureux, (F) English River Miners and Garrett Nelson, (F) Wisconsin Wilderness.
At the conclusion of the regular season the SIJHL’s most valuable player will be presented the Pizza Hut player of the year award and will also go on to be the league’s representative for the national Canadian Junior Hockey League player of the year trophy.
