Tbaytel Joins Thunder Bay
THUNDER BAY – The PGA Canada Golf Classic will be held in July at the spectacular Whitewater Golf Club in Thunder Bay. Scott Smith, the Executive Director for the tournament is working hard to ensure that a top quality tournament will be the result.
Staring down a winter storm, the Thunder Bay Golf Classic added new sponsor, Tbaytel to the tournament.
The organizing committee of the Thunder Bay Golf Classic announced today that they have garnered additional local support by confirming Tbaytel as presenting sponsor for what will now be one of the biggest community events of the summer.
Headquartered in Thunder Bay, Ont., Tbaytel has joined as presenting sponsor as part of a three-year deal that will see the event stay in Thunder Bay at the renowned Whitewater Golf Club.
Scheduled to run from July 14th to 20th, 2014, the new addition to the 2014 PGA TOUR Canada tournament lineup will be one of the most anticipated events of the year and promises to be an unforgettable week of golf, celebrations and fun.
As Canada’s only municipally owned telecommunications provider for over 100 years, Tbaytel has been a key part of the city’s business landscape and proud supporter of civic events and initiatives for many years. The agreement to come on board as presenting sponsor is a reflection of the Tbaytel’s key brand value –“we take care of our neighbourhood” – and serves to solidify the company as a key contributor to the economy and quality of life of the city of Thunder Bay.
“Tbaytel is pleased to be partnering with the Thunder Bay Golf Classic on PGA TOUR Canada not only as presenting sponsor but as the event’s telecommunications provider as well,” said Tbaytel president and CEO Dan Topatigh. “We are committed to supporting regional economic development through innovation,
opportunity and renewal and we are excited about the benefit the tournament will have for much of northern Ontario.”
As host to the 1995 World Nordic Games, 2010 World Junior Baseball Championships and 2011 Special Olympics, to name a few, Thunder Bay is a city with a long history of support for professional and community- based sports events.
The 2014 Thunder Bay Golf Classic is no exception. As one of the latest additions to the newly expanded 2014 PGA TOUR Canada schedule, the tournament offers an unmatched sporting experience for all constituents of Thunder Bay and Northwestern Ontario.
Scott Smith, Executive Director of the Thunder Bay Golf Classic, said they are excited to be partnering with Tbaytel and look forward to a fruitful partnership over the next three years.
“The anticipated economic impact of this PGA TOUR Canada event will serve as a tremendous boost to the local economy, and continue Thunder Bay’s long standing reputation as a premier sporting event destination,” said Smith.
“Having Tbaytel come on board as presenting sponsor is a really exciting development. Given their long history of community support we think they’re a great fit for a tournament of this caliber. We can’t host an event like this without community support and we are extremely happy to be making this announcement today.”
While golf is certainly the main attraction, the impact of PGA TOUR Canada is felt far beyond the fairway.
Last night at the Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce After Business, Scott Smith spoke with NetNewsLedger. The tournament is coming together, and they are adding, and seeking additional sponsorships.
