KENORA – News – The Winter Storm is impacting School Buses in Dryden, Kenora, Red Lake, Sioux Lookout, Ignace and Upsala. General Manager of the School District Judi  Green shares, “The Consortium has been in communication with the Bus Operators throughout the day and again in the last hour.  Kenora and Red Lake are still under a Special Weather Statement and they are on the edge of the predicted storm system.  Road conditions are being reported as poor. These two areas  have experienced rain, drizzle and some freezing rain and some snow.  Dropping temperatures will also cause more freezing on the road surfaces.

“The remaining areas of Dryden/Vermilion Bay, Sioux Lookout, Ignace, Upsala and Pickle Lake are still in a snowfall warning with Environment Canada forecasting up to 25 cm of snow by days end on Friday.  Road conditions have begun to deteriorate in some areas while others haven’t seen any significant snow as yet.  Apparently the second storm cell had stalled and wasn’t moving as quickly as Environment Canada first believed”.

Please be advised that in the interest of student safety,  school buses will be once again cancelled in the following areas for Friday, February 21

Red Lake/Ear Falls

Kenora/Sioux Narrows

Dryden/Vermilion Bay

Sioux Lookout

Ignace

Upsala

SCHOOLS REMAIN OPEN

While storm conditions didn’t materialize as predicted in many areas, they are expected tomorrow.
