WATERLOO – SPORTS – The Lakehead University women’s basketball team were on the wrong end of a 75-65 score on Friday evening following a matchup with the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks.

Katie Ulakovic was on fire early for the ‘Wolves hitting 4 first half three-pointers, but would be held to 3 points in the second half to finish with 15.

As a team, Lakehead scored 22 in the first quarter, but had trouble in the second half, scoring only 27 in the final 20 minutes of play.

By contrast Laurier responded in the 2nd quarter of play by scoring 28, and kept the pressure on in the second half to the final buzzer.

Laurier was led by a well-rounded offensive outing as four different players passed the double-digit marker in points.

Laura Doyle and Kimberley Yeldon  scored 14 points apiece, while Kaitlyn Schenk and Bree Chaput each earned 12 points on the night.

Jylisa Williams carried the Thunderwolves with 22 points and 15 rebounds to complete the double-double in a losing effort.

Coach Jon Kreiner, post game said, “Tonight was a tough loss because we played so well early then played so poorly in the second quarter. Laurier showed their experience and didn’t panic and we didn’t value each possession.”

The two teams will rematch tomorrow evening at 6:00PM.
