What can you do for Cancer Care in 2014?

THUNDER BAY – Health – On Saturday, December 21, the 2nd Annual Party for a Cure took place at The Westfort. Organizers and brothers, Jake (middle) and Zac (left) Donatis from Royal LePage Lannon Realty, started the event in 2012 as their stepfather was diagnosed with prostate cancer. This year, to their dismay, they found out that a close friend’s father was battling cancer and decided that they wanted to continue to support local cancer care the best way they knew how – by, once again, throwing a party.

This year, the brothers decided to host the event just before Christmas, featuring live music, which was a great hit with the crowd that joined them. Altogether the event raised $4,000 in support of the Exceptional Cancer Care Campaign, which will bring leading-edge equipment to Northwestern Ontario for the diagnosis, treatment and research of cancer.  Both Jake and Zac are already looking forward to planning next year’s event and continue their support of cancer care advancements.

Accepting the cheque (right) is Glenn Craig, President and CEO, Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation, who remarked, “Many cancer patients face a difficult journey as they come to terms with their diagnosis and then have to make  choices regarding their treatment. Events like the Party for a Cure bring Hope to patients and their families and are critical to ensuring that the very best options are available here at home so that patients don’t have to choose to leave home to receive world-class cancer care.”
