Thunder Bay Police Seek Hit and Run Driver

THUNDER BAY – Crime News – Thunder Bay Police are seeking public assistance in locating the driver of a Dodge Ram truck involved in a hit and run. On Sunday, January 12th, 2014, at about 03:15AM EST, there was a serious collision involving a grey Hyundai Elantra and a black Dodge pick-up truck at the intersection of Memorial Ave and the Harbour Expressway.

The Hyundai was stopped for a red light facing south on Memorial Aveune when it was struck from behind by the pick-up truck traveling at a substantial speed. The car was propelled forward and came to rest on the Harbour Expressway entrance ramp. The black Dodge pick-up truck fled the scene and was found by police a short time afterwards at a near-by residence. The driver failed to stop to render assistance to the occupants of the other vehicle.

Please contact the Traffic Unit to speak to an investigator if you were a witness to this event or have knowledge of who was the driver of the pick-up truck.

Police state in a release, “This collision could have resulted in the first fatal collision of the New Year, as there was a passenger in the back seat of the sedan. There were no serious injuries thanks to seat belts being worn by all three occupants of the Hyundai”.
