THUNDER BAY – Thunder Bay Fire Rescue, the Lakehead University Thunderwolves and Tbaytel have partnered to release limited edition cards of this year’s varsity hockey team that highlight fire safety messaging. “Fire safety and fire prevention is one of our top priorities,” said Thunder Bay Fire Rescue’s Public Education Officer Anthony Stokaluk. “This project allows us to get that message across to Thunder Bay’s young hockey fans and promote fire prevention within the community in an interesting and engaging way.”

The player cards will be available to fans in attendance at the Thunderwolves’ Feb. 15 Home Game at the Fort William Gardens.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue and players from the Thunderwolves will also be attending a number of elementary schools and minor hockey events promoting fire safety and distributing the new cards.

The first of these visits is scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 19, from 12-4PM EST at the Fort William First Nation Arena.

“The safety of our employees and our community is a top priority for Tbaytel,” said Tbaytel’s VP of Strategy and Customer Solutions Kevin Burns. “We are pleased to be partnering with Thunder Bay Fire Rescue and the Lakehead Thunderwolves to reach out to the community and remind the public that fire safety is important all year round.”

“The Lakehead Thunderwolves would like to extend a huge thank you to Tbaytel and Thunder Bay Fire Rescue for making these hockey cards a reality,” said Lakehead Thunderwolves’ Varsity Hockey Executive Director Jason Mallon. “Tbaytel is such a tremendous supporter of our community and this could not have happened without their support. Our players are looking forward to the school visits promoting fire safety and we are sure these cards will be a big hit with our fans.”
