Electric Power out Across Newfoundland

THUNDER BAY – Newfoundland is dark tonight. Electricity is out across the province. The main electric power station on the island has reportedly exploded. The entire province went offline at 9:28PM Newfoundland time, about 8PM EST.

Power problems have been ongoing on Newfoundland over the weekend. They got much worse on Sunday night.

The provincial utility has reported it is experiencing power generation problems; The outages are affecting over 100,000 customers. (Newfoundland Power)

Sources tell NNL, “Newfoundland hydro (the other power company in NL) is working on sending power to the island, places should start coming back online but the Holyrood Thermal Generating Station, the main one on the island, is completely down.

Holyrood Thermal Electric Generating Station built by Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro Corporation is located near the community of Holyrood, in Conception Bay, Newfoundland, Canada.

Around 9:30PM N.T., Newfoundland Power tweeted that it is experiencing problems. As of 10PM, over 100,000 customers are without power.
