Earlier today, Thunder Bay Police were dispatched to a rural south side residence to assist a male in distress at 7:45 a.m. on December 20, 2013. Police were on scene shortly after 08:00AM, and began to search for a thirty-four-year old male who had left the residence on foot.
Officers located the by then unresponsive male in a densely wooded area behind the residence. The male was injured, unresponsive, and in need of medical attention. Officers utilized their jackets and hats to try to keep this male warm as they were concerned of the effects of hypothermia given the frigid temperatures this morning.
The male was carried out of the unforgiving terrain by police with the assistance of EMS paramedics. Thunder Bay Fire and Rescue personnel also attended the scene. He was transported to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Center where he remains for medical treatment. Two officers sustained minor injuries as a result of the difficulties of maneuvering in waist deep snow.
