DRYDEN – Business – FedNor Minister Rickford stated, “Our Government recognizes that small businesses are not only the backbone of Canada’s economy but very much at the heart of our economy here in Northern Ontario. Today’s announcement acknowledges the key role that Community Futures Development Corporations, such as Patricia Area Community Endeavours, play to support the local economy and create jobs in our communities.”

Greg Rickford, Minister of State for Science and Technology, and FedNor, and Minister responsible for the Ring of Fire, announced a Government of Canada investment in Dryden today to foster small business development and growth, create jobs and strengthen the regional economy.

FedNor funding of $960,000 will enable Patricia Area Community Endeavours (PACE) to provide small and medium-sized enterprises with access to capital and business counselling services for a three-year period. PACE is one of 24 Community Futures Development Corporations (CFDCs) funded by FedNor to service Northern Ontario businesses and communities. CFDCs are community-based, not-for-profit organizations run by a board of local volunteers and staffed by experienced business and economic development professionals, who are familiar with local realities and challenges.

“We are committed to making a difference and the federal support that was announced today will enable us to continue to provide critical services that address identified needs for business growth and community economic development throughout the region,” said Richard Wetelainen, Board Vice-Chair, Patricia Area Community Endeavours.

The funding announced today is provided through FedNor’s Community Futures Program, which supports projects that strengthen community economic development, enhance business development and growth, and facilitate innovation throughout the region.

“Our Government remains focused on providing the right environment for economic growth, through effective cooperation across all sectors, to keep Canadians working and to ensure the long-term prosperity of all our communities,” concluded Minister Rickford.
