Thunder Bay has a Giant Heart
THUNDER BAY – Food Now – Thunder Bay Diners are stepping up. December, is the last month of the year, but it is the hardest for some. Not everyone enjoys the holidays, and today I was reminded of that a few days ago.
Melizana restaurant send me a private message thanking me for all that I have done to help promote the local restaurants in Thunder Bay, they offered me a $50 gift certificate to have dinner on them. At first I thought how nice to receive a compliment and a gift. I immediately messaged them back and said thank you but I do not accept anything for what I do on Thunder Bay Dining. I had an idea to pay it forward. I announced on the Thunder Bay Dining Facebook group what had transpired and within minutes people were saying how kind and generous it was for them to donate the gift certificate to me and then for me to want to donate it back in the form of a contest.
After thinking about this I decided to do a contest, this contest would raise food for Shelter House. So, with that in mind, I thought, one $50 gift certificate was a great start, I started emailing my restaurant contacts, and within the hour had over $200 in gift certificates. I then thought, why stop with restaurants, I messaged my local friends who have businesses in Thunder Bay and before 10pm that night, I had so many gift certificates and restaurants vouchers that I could do a grand prize and two smaller draws. Lets spread the joy and pay it forward to three people.
The contest is a simple one, you must be a Thunder Bay Dining member, join us on Facebook to enter into the contest, https://www.facebook.com/groups/thunderbaydining/.
The prizes consists of gift certificates from many local restaurants, most in the form of $25, of buffet lunch coupons, a $25 for Blossoms Fresh Fruit Arrangements, a prize package from Pampered Chef, a gourmet pizza from Eat Local Pizza, Gabbys Spudz has donated too.
The Grand Prize is a Crash My House by Chef Richard House Moorey and the Davinci Centre. Chef House will prepare dinner for 4 people in your home, that’s valued at over $300!!
In total, so far, we have over one thousand dollars in restaurant and local prizes donated.
So, here are the contest details, you must be a Thunder Bay Dining member for your chance to win one of the three prize packages.
For each food item you donate, your name will be entered into the drum, if you donate 10 items, your name goes in the drum 10 times, the more you donate, the more chances you will have to win one of the three prizes!!
The contest will run from December 14 to December 20, the draw will be held on December 21 at 3pm. The winners name will be announced on the Thunder Bay Dining Facebook page, as well as on Netnewsledger.
Its my way of paying it forward, I can go out to a restaurant any night of the week, I truly appreciated the gift certificate, but I thought lets donate it back to my Thunder Bay Dining group members, because truly, they are what make the group work! So, after a little bit of thought, I decided to do this food fundraiser for Shelter House.
Donations can be dropped off starting Saturday at Eat Local Pizza on May Street, or Melizana restaurant on Dawson Road, along with the Slovak Legion on Atlantic Ave, and the Airlane Hotel & Conference Centre on Arthur St. You can also drop off donations at the NetNewsLedger offices at #10 516 Victoria Avenue East in the heart of the downtown Fort William Business area.
Lets help pay it forward and donate as many non perishables as you can, its for a great cause!
