Thunder Bay QueensBLAINE, Minn. – Sports – The Thunder Bay Queens have two teams moving on to gold medal games at the All-American Girls tournament in Blaine, Minn., as the First Class Gas bantam AA and the Triad Contracting peewee sides each earned the opportunity to play for a championship.

FIRST GLASS GAS BANTAM AA QUEENS 3 WINNIPEG TWINS 1— A tight-checking affair saw Hannah Armstrong tally twice to send her side to the title game in the under-14 bantam elite division.

Armstrong notched both her markers sandwiched around one by Winnipeg in the opening period, including notching the game-winner, with Amanda Pages drawing the assist of each effort.

After a scoreless middle session Kaylee Grosjean added some insurance with a third period power play goal with six and half minutes to play.

Alyssa Aho picked up the win in net for the Queens, who improved to 3-0.

They’ll now meet the Chaska/Chanhassen Storm Hawks of Minnesota in the championship game Sunday at noon.

TRIAD CONTRACTING PEEWEE QUEENS 2 MOUNDS VIEW MUSTANGS 2 (OT) – The peewee Queens rallied from a 2-0 third period deficit to pull out a 2-2 overtime draw with Mounds View to wrap-up pool play with an unbeaten 2-0-1 record and earn a spot in Sunday’s final.

After the Mustangs went up a pair in the third period Thunder Bay got a goal from Molly Kunnas to pull her side to within one.

Brenna Nicol then notched the equalizer on an assist from Carly Hennessey to level the proceedings.

After a scoreless five-minute OT solved nothing the game ended in a draw giving the Queens a point and a place in the peewee title game.

Josee Robinson was in net for Thunder Bay.

Thunder Bay will now tangle with the Anoka Tornadoes in the final Sunday at 2 p.m.

The Queens defeated Anoka 2-1 in round robin play Friday.
