OTTAWA – Global Entrepreneurship Week is November 18-24. Prime Minister Stephen Harper today issued the following statement on Global Entrepreneurship Week:
“Entrepreneurs are hardworking and dedicated individuals who contribute immensely to our country’s economic growth and prosperity. This week, we celebrate their passion, drive and confidence.
“Our Government is taking decisive action to help our entrepreneurs succeed in the global economy. We are reducing taxes, eliminating unnecessary regulatory burdens and red tape, and providing unprecedented access to international markets, including through the historic agreement in principle that was just reached with the European Union on a Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement.
“Our Economic Action Plan 2013 includes initiatives and programs to help our entrepreneurs grow, such as: advancing the Venture Capital Action Plan by providing $60 million over five years to expand the services of business incubators and accelerators; establishing new Entrepreneur Awards to recognize excellence in entrepreneurship; and, supporting young entrepreneurs with new resources of $18 million over the next two years through the Canadian Youth Business Foundation. Earlier this year, our Government also launched a new Start-Up Visa Program designed to attract innovative and ambitious international entrepreneurs to Canada.
“I want to thank the official host of Global Entrepreneurship Week in Canada – the Canadian Youth Business Foundation (CYBF) – who are marking this week by celebrating the immense success of Canadian entrepreneurs and inspiring others to follow in their footsteps.
“Entrepreneurs are the backbone of the Canadian economy, and I encourage all Canadians to join me this week in celebrating their innovations and successes.”
