The Red Bull Sports Extreme Sailing Series

NICE, FRANCE – Sports – The 2013 Red Bull Extreme Sailing Series has wrapped up for the 2013 season.  The Wave Muscat (Oman) dominantly clinched victory in the penultimate act of the Extreme Sailing World Series 2013 off the coast of Nice with Red Bull Extreme Sailing grabbing two wins on Sunday but settling for third place due to last-gasp technical problems, behind Swiss team Alinghi. Tens of thousands of spectators took in the action of world’s best-staffed sailing series along the city’s iconic Promenade des Anglais.

The world’s most exciting multi-hull series provided spectacular entertainment. Austrian double Olympic champions Roman Hagara and Hans Peter Steinacher showed why they are considered among the world’s best in the world after winning half a dozen races over the four days of the competition.

The world’s most exciting multi-hull series provided spectacular entertainment over four days with strong winds and light breezes challenging the eight top-level teams. Austrian double Olympic champions Roman Hagara and Hans Peter Steinacher  and their international crew  showed why they are considered among the world’s best in the world after winning  half a dozen races over the four days of the competiton.

“We were able to win six races and land on the podium seven times . We are very satisfied with this result but we are not satisfied with the finale today,“ said tactician Hans Peter Steinacher.

The Salzburg native dominantly steered the team, including freshly crowned America’s Cup winner Kinley Fowler (Oracle Team USA) until the fourth race on Sunday when  technical problems proved costly. The gennakers failed to work properly in the fourth race of the day and despite a sensational start Hagara, Steinacher and company had to see the competition pull away and finish in fifth spot behind Alinghi.

So The Swiss were able to pip Red Bull Extreme Sailing to the post in  the Nice standings and snatch second place on 217 points behind leaders The Wave Muskat (237 points).

Red Bull finished only a point behind in third on 216.

In the season standings Red Bull are in third place after seven of eight acts. The Wave Muscat (Oman) retain the lead ahead of Alinghi (SUI). The season finale takes place in Florianopolis (Brazil) on November 14-17.
