Lakehead Thunderwolves basketballSAULT STE MARIE – LU SPORTS – The Lakehead University Thunderwolves men’s basketball team was handed their 4th loss of the regular season, 64-54 by the Algoma Thunderbirds on Friday evening. It is Algoma’s 3rd victory in their first season in the OUA, bringing their record to 3-2.

Lakehead found themselves down 15-9 to begin the game, which became a foul-plagued affair that slowed down the pace of action, much to Algoma’s advantage. The Thunderwolves also struggled from behind the arc, shooting less than 25%.

The ‘Wolves trailed 34-25 at the half.
Coach Matt Erdman said, “Hats off to Algoma for defending their home court and executing in key moments. It’s a process with our team and we need to continue to improve both individually and as a unit everyday.”
The game’s result certainly agrees with the trend of the OUA East vs West interlock portion of the season, which has seen the East as a division go 30-9 against the West since the beginning of the regular season. Three teams in the East are currently 5-0, including the Laurentian Voyageurs.
The men’s team heads to Sudbury to play Laurentian tomorrow at 8:00pm
