NORTH BAY – Sports – The Thunder Bay Norcan Tours and Travel midget A are off to the championship game of the OK Tire Blue Sky Classic in North Bay.
They earned the berth in the midget A final following a 2-1 shootout victory over the Bluewater Hawks of Strathroy, Ont., in semifinal play Saturday night.

This tight-checking affair saw the contest remain scoreless until midway through the third period before Jacqueline Desimone gave the Queens the lead.
The Hawks then scored in the final minute courtesy of Katie Shipley to force a five-minute overtime session.
Neither side was able find the back of the net in the extra session so extra shots were needed to determine a winner.
In the shootout Alison Ross scored on Thunder Bay’s first attempt after Sydney Horst thwarted a Bluewater shot.
No goals were notched in the second round before the Hawks’ Quinn Kennedy tied things up with her opportunity.
That set the stage for the Queens’ Sarah Doyle to make the most of her chance as she buried the puck to give the Queens the win.
Thunder Bay (3-0-1) will now meet the also unbeaten Nepean Wildcats (4-0) in Sunday’s championship game at 12:15 p.m., after they blanked the host North Bay Ice Boltz 4-0 in the other semifinal.
