THUNDER BAY – Crimebeat – Thunder Bay Police are now confirming that Second Degree Murder charges have been laid in the hit and run incident that happened on October 1 2013.
Thirty-eight-year-old Richard Terrance Vrasak, of Thunder Bay died from injuries sustained in a collision at the entrance to a parking lot in the 200 block of Algoma Street South. The driver of the van fled the scene of the collision.
As a result of the death of Vrasak, thirty-two-year Mark Yesno has been charged with 2nd Degree Murder, and and Failing To Remain.
Vrasak was riding his bicycle south-bound on Algoma Street South. He was riding on the east sidewalk of Algoma Street when he was struck by a van driven by a male.
He was transported to hospital.
Mr. Vrasak died today from injuries sustained in the collision.
Officers obtained surveillance video which was instrumental in the identification of the involved vehicle. The 37 year old male initially charged in connection with the collision has been released. Further investigation led to the arrest of the male alleged to have been the driver of the van.
32 year old Sheldon Mark Yesno has been charged with 2nd Degree Murder and Fail to Remain. Yesno has been remanded into custody.
Thunder Bay Police state, “It is alleged that the confrontation was drug related”.
