THUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay and Area Disaster Relief Committee (DRC) has received approval from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing to release the final cheques to those approved by the Ontario Disaster Relief Assistance Program (ODRAP).

“We are pleased to announce that the approval has been granted by the Ministry and we are now able to distribute the final payment on claims,” said Kari Chiappetta, Program Manager of the DRC. “We know that this has been a trying and emotional time for many of our neighbours and we would really like to thank everyone for their patience.”

“The cheques will be in the mail by the end of today,” said Chiappetta pointing out that if you have not received a cheque by the end of next week and you believe you should have had a final payment, to contact the office for further investigation.

The DRC is also announcing that there is a reconsideration process in place for those who believe their claim was assessed incorrectly.

“To apply for reconsideration of the claim, written submission must be received in the DRC office by September 17,” said Chiappetta.

The request must include:

  • New and relevant information related to repairs to pre-disaster condition and/or loss of eligible items located in your primary living areas
  • Additional invoices and receipts for work that has been completed
  • Final invoices that may differ from an original estimate, pictures, etc.

Claimants are invited to contact the DRC office at 625-2607 to address any questions they have. For more information visit: www.thunderbay.ca/flood.
