Care with Respect at White Cedar Health Care Centres
THUNDER BAY – White Cedar Heath Care Centres are offering a holistic and respect based approach to assist First Nations people recover from opiod addiction. The Health Care Centre, located at 125 Vickers Street South in the Fort William Downtown Business District treats their clients with respect. The Centre offers addiction treatment, and family practice care.
While there is a focus on First Nations patients, the White Cedar Health Care Centre is open to all residents.
The facility which has just opened offers a friendly space where the staff assure that clients will be treated with respect, and with a focus on the wellness needs of First Nations people. There are also plans in place for expanding the services offered to clients and their families.
Traditional Healing
The gathering area at White Cedar offers clients the choice of traditional healing, counselling, and spiritual guidance. The facility is bright, clean, and inviting.
Full Service Pharmacy and Methadone Treatment
The Health Care Centre offers treatment, including methadone and suboxone. There is also a focus on moving clients forward in their treatment, treating the whole person, not just the addition.
There is a full service pharmacy onsite.
The goal is putting in place the tools and teachings, making White Cedar a hub with a breakfast program, Elders on site, a family friendly environment, and bringing in a doctor and eventually a walk-in clinic to the downtown South Core.
As well, the goal is working with First Nations communities across the north.
There is a lot of very positive action underway in the downtown Fort William Business District. In addition to White Cedar, over the past months, Tannis Smith has opened Gaa Mino Bimaadiziwaad Counselling & Advocacy in the Chapple Building, and Cindy Crowe is opening Blue Sky Community Healing Centre at 512 Victoria Avenue East.
