THUNDER BAY – Thunder Bay Police with assistance from the Anishinabek Police Service have laid charges against Jona John MacLaurin.  The Fort William First Nations man was charged on July 22, 2013. Police report, just after 22:00EDT, officers observed a male and female exiting a Greyhound Bus that was stopped at the Robin’s Donuts location at Hodder Avenue and Arundel Street. Both suspects were advised that they were under arrest on the belief that they had drugs in their possession.

The male resisted officers during the arrest process and was taken to the ground to be handcuffed. A search of the male subsequent to the arrest resulted in a seizure of 241 grams of cocaine. The approximate street value of the drugs is $24,100.00.

Suspect remanded to custody

Both suspects were taken to the Balmoral Police Station to be processed.. The 28 year old female was released unconditionally while 31 year old Jona John MacLaurin was charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking and Resist Arrest. MacLaurin was held in custody and made a court appearance on July 23, 2013 where he was remanded to the District Jail.
