Redwood Church Presents Jesus Christ Superstar
THUNDER BAY- Migliazza Productions hits the main stage of the Redwood Park Church to kick off the summer season with the rock opera “Jesus Christ Superstar” by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice. The musical that launched Webber and Rice’s careers along with a new era in music plays. The play will hit the Redwood Church state from July 25-27th with shows starting at 7:00pm.
“Jesus Christ Superstar” tells the story of the last seven days in the life of Jesus of Nazareth
The tale begins with Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem and the unrest caused by his preaching and popularity. As Jesus’ radical teachings are evermore embraced by the populace, one of his disciples, Judas, increasingly questions the enlightened motives of this new prophet, resulting in betrayal.
A powerful, emotional tale of men and women driven to their fate by forces beyond their control.
The Final Days of Jesus Christ
Christ’s final days are dramatized with emotional intensity, thought-provoking edge and explosive theatricality and ending with the crucifixion. All told in beautiful, moving, fun and catchy songs and portrayed by Thunder Bay’s finest group of actors, singers, dancers and live musicians!
The theatricality inherent in the musical is an element that director, Sam Migliazza and choreographer Angelica Migliazza focused on to catch the eye of the audience and draw them in right from the beginning.
“I’m adding some new elements into it. There’s certain scenes that have been reworked in order to bring out and enforce the power of the music. For example, in one song I have added a choreographed scene that takes place while Jesus is singing. I’m also taking it into a new era, we’re going for a 70’s feel, similar to the 1973 movie but with a more political twist to it, it’s pretty cool,” Sam Migliazza said in an interview.
“(Religion) is one of the tricky things with doing this musical. There are lots of iconic moments that people of a religious background identify with and I felt very strongly about reinforcing these moments. Taking liberties and approaching them in a unique way. But without loosing the meaning and representation within it,” continued Sam Migliazza.
