OPPFORT FRANCES – Updated – As of 5:40 p.m. Ontario Provincial Polic have apprehended a male suspect who had been barricaded in  a house on the 1000 block of First St. East. No one was injured. The suspect is in police custody. Area residents have been able to return to their homes.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) report that a man in Fort Frances has barricaded himself in his residence. 

The OPP in a media statement say that “At approximately 05:00EDT this morning, the Rainy River District Detachment responded to a disturbance at a residence located on the 1000 block of First Street East. When the officers arrived at the scene, a male had barricaded himself inside the residence”.

view counter“For the safety of the public, officers have set up a perimeter surrounding the residence as the investigation continues. The OPP Northwest Region Emergency Response Team (ERT) was called in to provide support with containing the area”.

The Fort Frances Crime Unit is assisting with the investigation. The occurrence is in the early stages. The OPP are requesting members of the public stay away from the 1000 block of First Street in Fort Frances right now. This is for the safety of the public and police offices.

OPP advise that further details will be made available later today.
