THUNDER BAY – Sometimes its the fries! Sometimes it is the burger. There are some great local choices for delicious French fries in Thunder Bay. Same goes for the tastiest burgers in town. In the south side of downtown, there are lots of great choices for local treats.
Gabby’s Spudz
One of the best places on the south side for fries is Gabby’s Spudz. There is a combination of the atmosphere, kind of chip truck in a building flavour wise. The fries are crispy, delicious and in the classic brown paper bag that seems to add just a bit of flavour.
Gabby’s also offers a bannock burger, a treat being added to the menus of a growing number of fast food restaurants across Thunder Bay. It is a sure sign that business owners are learning that our First Nations population are a growing economic force to be reckoned with.
Plus of course they are real potatoes. Some of the more iconic fast food places use extruded potatoes. Some you might find that never some how rot. Real food can bio-degrade.
McKellar Confectionary
The classic McKellar Confectionary offers its favourite snacks. The burgers are served up fast, and the flavour is always there. You might not see white linen on the table, but that is not what you go to McKellar Confectionary for.
The special sauce is something almost everyone likes. Well almost everyone, Dakota from Fort Severn thought not on the sauce.
The Prospector Burger Barn was busy today as usual. The burgers are served big, and fast.
The large crowd outside speaks to how popular this outfit really is here in the south of Thunder Bay.
There are lots of choices as stated.
The battle for the best locally made burger and fries in Thunder Bay South is a toss up, so the best thing you can do is rotate your choices until you are content. The benefit to that is that more of your spending dollar stays in Thunder Bay where you live too.
If you are up to it, and want to really indulge, and your cardiologist is on ‘standby’ you can also think of heading out to the Stanley Inn. The drive out is relaxing, and the burgers are arguably some of the best in the area.
For Fries, the winner in my opinion is Gabby’s. For burgers, may the battle range on long!
